I challenged myself to create something playful and character-driven that would work in the context of editorial illustration and animation. Topics where I find this piece would fit include influence of social media, ice cream reviews and food influencers.
In this process video (below) you can see some of the steps I took in the creation process of this project.
One of the inspirations for this project was Buda's personal project "Feed me with love/hate".

For the background design and lighting I referenced Milo Target´s work for The New Yorker.

The main inspiration for the ice cream's movement came from a guy dancing to Marc Rebillet´s music in this video, around 6 seconds in.

In the picture here you can see some more of the process for this project. The first sketches were just scribbles, and then I fleshed out the idea a bit more in new sketches. I didn't render the drawings much, it was more to help me decide on the general direction of the project.
On the second row there´s an early render of the ice cream, which I overpainted in Procreate. I wanted to see how it would look like if I made the rest of the character in 2D. I ended up animating the mouth and reflection in the sunglasses in After Effects in 2D, the rest being 3D in Blender. I also tried a lighting setup that attempted to emulate a camera's flashlight, but decided that it did not suit the style I was going for.
